5 Hours at IKEA!

15- July 2009

We arrived at the local Ikea almost one hour before they opened. Eric successfully drove our rented Volkswagen Golf on the wrong side of the car and the wrong side of the road the few miles journey to Ikea, which took close to an hour (but about half that to get home…hmmmmm.)

Our “partially furnished” town home came with 3 beds, 3 small wardrobes, 2 dressers, 2 love seats, and 1 end table. Seemed like a lot until we got to Ikea. What we were planning to be a morning trip ended up lasting 5 hours, which is a lot of time on your feet in the third trimester. It’s good they have a café. And child care…but for only 1 of the 5 hours, unfortunately. But we really didn’t want to have to go back for another trip. You really can furnish an entire home at Ikea, everything from sofas to soup ladles, or entire kitchens with appliances; and they specialize in small spaces. We had most items delivered the next day which was great. We finally feel a bit more settled, though we’re still eating McDonalds for breakfast. Our shipped items from the States arrived yesterday and we are still unpacking much of it, including most of the kitchen items.
